Epping Forest Homestead

in the City of Campbelltown

"Epping Forest is portion of two hundred acres granted to the brothers Matthew and John Kearns in 1810.

The homestead, in Mississippi Cres, Kearns, is a sandstock brick house which is a rare example of a Georgian bungalow from the early colonial period, circa 1820s. The inclusion of the verandah under the main hipped roof makes Epping Forest one of the more unusual Colonial houses when compared with the more common practice of the verandah roof being expressed separately. There is a detached kitchen building at the rear of the house. There are also old farm buildings.

The homestead was classified by the National Trust in 1975. In 1998 Campbelltown City Council supported placement of a Permanent Conservation Order on Epping Forest and the Minister for Urban Affairs and Planning made a State Heritage Register Order over the property in August 1999.

The total area of the site is 1.7623 hectares."
